Senior will play next year at NMU

It didn’t take long for East Troy’s Breanna Gaspervich to make her presence felt during her sophomore season.
Back then, she had potential to take her game to the next level – but at the time, it was untapped potential.
Fast forward not even two years later, and it’s long been clear how dominant Gaspervich has become. And she has the numbers to back that up.
Gaspervich recently passed the coveted 1,000-point plateau, as she continues to lead the Trojans into what they hope will be another storybook season.
The mark came in a blowout win over McFarland, and several days later, Gaspervich had a chance to reflect on what she had done.
“It’s a really big accomplishment,” she said. “I know not many people can do it, and I know it’s always been a goal of mine and my parents to finally reach it. It’s really exciting.”
Gaspervich, quiet and unassuming off the court, but aggressive and skilled on it, always makes a habit of deflecting credit to her teammates.
And in the wake of the 1,000 points, that hadn’t changed.
Sharing it with this group of fellow seniors, who all have been teammates for several seasons, makes the achievement even more special, she said.
“We’ve grown up together and played together since we all started playing the sport, and we’re really close,” she said. “If it wasn’t for the help of them, I wouldn’t have been able to reach 1,000 points.”
Gaspervich, who has an outside shot at the school scoring mark, said she had an idea she was nearing the record thanks to the reaction of the East Troy bench.
Her teammates were well aware, as coach Jeff Brown let them know. When Gaspervich took a pass from Bryn Riemer and scored to pass the mark, the bench went crazy.
“I knew it was close, but I didn’t think it was that close,” she said. “When all of my teammates stood up (along) with almost everyone in the gym, it was so surreal.”

And the scoring mark isn’t the only piece of big news for Gaspervich, as she also recently inked an NCAA scholarship to continue her basketball career at Northern Michigan University next year.
Coming to that decision is a weight off her shoulders, Gaspervich said.
“I’m really excited,” she said. “It’s always been a dream of mine to play in college for as long as I can remember, and now that it’s finally happening, it’s just really exciting.”
As often is the case for an athlete in a recruiting situation, the final decision came down to instinct, Gaspervich said.
She just felt the fit was right, and that’s why she signed on the dotted line.
“I got along with all the coaches, all the girls on the team, and the campus is beautiful,” Gaspervich said. “While I was visiting there, I just had a feeling that it was going to be the right decision.”
But Gaspervich, who said she plans to major in either criminal justice or business, still has more goals to accomplish with the Trojans.
East Troy ended last year with its first-ever state tournament berth, but Gaspervich has a perfect ending to this season.
“A state championship (is what I want),” she said.
