On Jan. 4, the Delavan-Darien High School boys swimming team competed for the first time in nearly two weeks when it participated in the Fort Atkinson invitational.
Of the eight teams competing, the Comets placed seventh as a team but several swimmers had strong showings that day.
Peter Cook was named this past week as the team’s second captain and Comets head coach Lauren Gurholt said that one of the top swims in the meet at Fort Atkinson came from Cook, who dropped 15 seconds off of his best 100-freestyle.
Along with Cook, Gurholt noted that Alexander Flesch dropped two seconds off his 100-freestyle time as well. Flesch, Jordan Ivans and Dawson Lenz placed sixth in the 300-backstroke relay, while Adrian Baca, Lenz, Makai Johnson and Ivans took sixth in the 500-freestyle relay.
“With our team being relatively young this year and with the overall work ethic, we are excited to see how team growth the next few years,” Gurholt said. “All looks promising.”
The Comets had a dual at home against Elkhorn on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Due to press deadline, that meet will be recapped in next week’s edition of the Delavan Enterprise.
The team will then have a break from competitions until Tuesday, Jan. 21 when it heads to Badger. That will be followed up with a meet back at Delavan-Darien High School on Tuesday, Jan. 28 in a dual against Jefferson/Cambridge.
