The Delavan-Darien boys’ basketball team hung with first-place Burlington for a half on Dec. 18, but the Demons pulled away in the second half for a 60-42 win in Delavan.
The Comets switched from their usual 1-3-1 zone defense to a 2-3 zone for this game and it seemed to work in the early going. Burlington had trouble scoring and led just 29-23 at the half. They scored the final six points of the half to get that lead after being tied at 23 on three-pointers by Trey Krause and Joey Berezowitz.
The Comets led much of the time during the first half of the first half. They took a 17-14 lead on a three-pointer by Jay T. Greenwald, but that was the last lead they would have all night. Burlington tied it on a three-pointer by Krause and took the lead on an old-fashioned three-point play by Krause at 20-17. Ethan Safer then hit another three-pointer to make it 23-17, the first time the Demons had led by more than three.
