It was a tale of two halves scoring-wise for the Delavan-Darien High School boys basketball team Friday when the team hosted Burlington, in its lone game of the week. The Comets entered the contest with a 7-5 overall record against the Demons (5-7).

In the first half, the Comets led going into halftime, but there wasn’t a ton of scoring, as the team was up, 26-20. Then in the second half, both teams erupted.

The Comets held onto their lead, outscoring the Demons 42-40 in that second half, leading to the 68-60 victory. Balance was the name of the game for the squad playing in front of its home crowd.

Four different Comets scored in double figures, as William Brown led the team with 18 points. Lucas Delara added 12, Seth Kirsch put in 13, and Brandon Edmonds totaled 15.

The four Comets shot a combined 13-of-19 from inside the arc and made six three-pointers altogether. As a team, the Comets went 16-of-19 from the free throw line, compared to the Demons’ 5-of-11.

Outside of points, Brown also led Delavan-Darien in assists with five, and Edmonds recorded five steals in the game. The top scorer in the game came from Burlington, as Cal Tully knocked in five three-pointers en route to a 21-point outing.

With the win, Delavan-Darien is now 8-5 overall and possesses a 5-3 record in Southern Lakes Conference play. The 5-3 SLC record has the Comets in a three-way tie for second place in conference heading into its next contest against Whitewater.

The game was set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at home. Whitewater entered with a 4-8 record overall and was coming off a 72-60 loss against East Troy. The Whippets were in a bit of a slump going 1-5 in their past six games.
