The Delavan-Darien High School girls basketball team picked up its second win of the season with a 60-47 non-conference win over Big Foot on Jan. 25.
Friday the Comets lost in Wilmot to remain winless in the Southern Lakes Conference.
Hosting Big Foot, the Comets capitalized on a big 34-19 first-half lead to go on for the 60-43 victory.
“We did a great job of attacking the basket and not allowing Big Foot to confuse us with all of their defenses,” D-DHS head coach Hank Johnson said. “We were proud of the way the girls competed throughout the game.”
Kylie Collins had one of her best games of the season, scoring 19 points to lead the Comets to the win.
Megan Butke added 10 points and four rebounds.
Macie Hill, Jennah Speth and Claudia Nieuwenhuis had seven points each.
Hill added six rebounds and Nieuwenhuis had four.
Alex Lewis had five points and five assists.
In Wilmot, the Comets lost 79-54 but Johnson feels his team really did some good things defensively they can build on.
“Against Wilmot, we decided to try something new against their best player (Kari) Clements, and we thought for the girls only having two days to prepare for it, that it went great,” Johnson said.
The Comets held Clements to only eight points.
After falling behind 48-17 at halftime, the Comets outscored the Panthers 22-15 in the third quarter, to cut into the lead, pulling within 13 points at one point.
It was a close fourth quarter with the Panthers outscoring the Comets 19-15 before going on for the win.
“We have seen a steady improvement that we are hoping to build off for the second half of the season,” Johnson said.
Collins had another great game, scoring 23 points and adding five assists.
Collins also tied a free throw record set in 2010-2011 by Alana Cesarz. Collins was a perfect 15-for-15 from the line to get in the record books.
Speth added 12 points, and Hill and Kenna Timmerman had six points each.
The Comets host Lake Geneva Badger tonight at 7 p.m. and Tuesday will host Waterford at 7 p.m.
