The Delavan-Darien High School boys’ basketball team was close to picking up its first Southern Lakes Conference win Friday, but lack of second-half defense allowed Elkhorn to take the 60-47 win.

“We are still seeing too many breakdowns defensively to be successful for four quarters,” D-DHS head coach Bob Beighton said. “We have struggled in defensive transition, close outs, help and communication. Put simply, we do not get back and set the defensive perimeter off missed shots with any consistency.”

The Comets had the 11-7 first quarter advantage before the Elks outscored them 20-12 in the second quarter and took the four-point lead at 27-23 into halftime.

Lack of offense and a defensive break down allowed the Elks to outscore the Comets 33-24 in the second half, and the Comets picked up their fifth conference loss, and are still looking for their first win of the season.

Jesse Collins led the Comets with 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Isiah Ramos added nine points and three steals, and William Brown, John Damrow and Ethan Cesarz added six points each.

The Comets host Burlington tonight at 7 p.m. and tomorrow night will host Parkview at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game.
