Whitewater proved too much for the Delavan-Darien High School girls’ basketball team Thursday night and the Comets lost 70-35 in non-conference action.
The Comets (1-5, 0-3) couldn’t overcome the press of the Whippets, causing too many Comet turnovers, resulting in easy Whippet baskets.

“It was their transition game and our turnovers,” D-DHS head coach Hank Johnson said on the loss. “They are a very experienced team that plays a lot of basketball out of season.”
The Comets started the game with a three-point basket by Kylie Collins, and after a basket by Megan Butke they had the 5-3 lead, but that would be the last lead of the game for the Comets.
After a tough Whippet press resulting in Comet turnovers, the Whippets built up a 32-20 halftime advantage.
That lead grew to 29 points to end the third quarter with the Whippets going up 57-28.
The Comets only put seven points in the board in the final quarter of action and went on for the 70-35 loss.
The Comets travel to Waterford tomorrow night for a 7 p.m. game and Tuesday will travel to Jefferson for a 7:15 p.m. non-conference contest.
