Comets fall to 1-6

It was a tough week of baseball for the Delavan-Darien High School baseball team as it dropped three Southern Lakes Conference games to fall to 1-6.
“The team never gives up,” D-DHS head coach Paul Yanko said. “They keep battling right until the end.”
“We need to get the clutch hits with runners on base,” he said. “We need to get the bats going more consistently.”
Yanko said both teams the Comets faced this week are ranked, and in two of the games, played the teams tough.
On April 29 at Wilmot it was a pitcher’s duel until the fifth inning when Wilmot scored three runs to get the 3-0 win.
On April 30 the Comets traveled to Lake Geneva Badger where they lost an 11-1 contest.
Micah Heath and Devin Salas both went 2-for-3 in the game.
The Comets next game against Badger was at home last Thursday and it was a much closer game that was in the Comet’s reach before lightning stopped the game short.
The Comets were down 4-2 heading into the seventh inning when Isiah Ramos got on base after getting hit by a pitch. Scott Buhler then singled for the Comets and Isaac Ramos drove home his brother with his base hit, making it 4-3.
With only one out and runners on first and third for the Comets, the umpires called the game because of the weather, giving the Comets the loss.
“One of our hottest hitters, Brendan Huber, got up to bat and the rain and lightning caused the game to be called due to weather conditions,” Yanko said.
Friday night the Comets will travel to Westosha Central for a 4:30 p.m. game and Saturday will head to Edgerton for a non-conference game.
Tuesday the Comets will host Westosha Central at 4:30 p.m.
