Softball team wins four games

Comets improve to 7-5 overall

Behind 47 hits, the Delavan-Darien High School softball team had one of its best weeks of softball in recent history, going 4-1 to improve to 7-5 overall.

The Comets swept Clinton in non-conference action in two games and then did the same thing to Lake Geneva Badger in Southern Lakes Conference action.

The only loss for the Comets during the week was a 2-0 loss to Wilmot.

On April 29 the Comets won two games against Clinton, beating the Cougars 7-1 and 7-6.

The Comets collected 14 hits in the 7-1 win with Jennah Speth going 4-for-4 to lead the Comets.

Speth also recorded 18 strikeouts on the mound to get the win, allowing only one walk and two hits.

Emily Moyer was 3-for-3, Amber Reed was 2-for-3 and Brooke Boss was 2-for-4.

In Game Two, the Comets had 10 hits and won 7-6.

Reed and Shelbie Greidanus were both 2-for-3 to lead the Comets and Morgan Benzing got the win, striking out seven and walking only one.

The Comets faced Lake Geneva Badger on April 30 and beat them in two games, 10-2 and 6-3.

In their 10-2 victory, Cindy Crawford was 3-for-3, and Reed was 3-for-4.

Greidanus and Boss were both 2-for-4 and Speth was 2-for-5.

Speth got the win, striking out seven and walking two.

In the second game, the Comets had six hits and Reed led the team going 2-for-3.

Benzing got the win and Speth picked up the save.

May 1. the Comets lost to Wilmot 2-1 and only Crawford and Speth had a hit in the game.

Speth took the loss.

Tonight the Comets will host Burlington in a doubleheader starting at 3:45 p.m.

Friday night the Comets travel to Elkhorn for a 4:30 game and Saturday will travel to Belmont.
