Whitewater senior Jimmy DuVal made his second consecutive appearance at the WIAA Division 2 Individual Wrestling Tournament, finishing his high school wrestling career in grand fashion and going out with a bang.
DuVal reached the podium at the Kohl Center in Madison last Saturday with his fourth-place finish in the 182-pound division. DuVal didn’t make the podium last year because he didn’t finish in the top six.
After a first-round bye on Feb. 22, the first day of the tournament, DuVal squared off against Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm senior Daniel Chuchwar Friday morning. He escaped with a 2-1 victory.
“In (Jimmy’s) quarterfinal match, he was pitted against a very good defensive wrestler and wrestled a very good match,” Whitewater coach John Schimming said. “This put Jimmy into the semifinals against an extremely athletic, quick student-athlete from Lodi.”
