Winning the first two games of the season on the road boosted the confidence a little bit for the Whitewater boys basketball team entering their home opener against Beloit Turner in a Rock Valley Conference matchup on Tuesday. The Trojans took control of the game early and didn’t look back against the Whippets.

Whitewater scored the first point of the game when senior forward Ben Kloskey made 1-of-2 free throws. Beloit Turner (2-1, 1-1) got six of their 11 unanswered points from junior guard Stephen Dillard to take an 11-1 lead. The Whippets didn’t score their first field goal until senior guard Roberto Navejas’ basket and free throw for a three-point play at the 12-minute 46-second mark of the first half cut the Beloit Turner lead to 11-4.

With 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Dai’ Vontrelle Strong in early foul trouble, Dillard carried the Trojans on his back. He made three straight baskets from beyond the arc on his way to 15 first half points for the visitors. The Whippets had no answer for Dillard’s hot shooting in the first half. Kloskey’s basket just before the half closed the Beloit Turner halftime margin to 29-24. Navejas led Whitewater with eight points in the first half.
