Whitewater girls basketball coach Judy Harms was positive in her assessment of her team in a scrimmage after the first week of practice just days before the regular season kicked off.
“I was real happy how we looked though (in the scrimmage),” she said last week. “I thought we had a really good start. I thought overall we shot pretty good.”
Even though the current Whippet girls isn’t expected to duplicate the team of the last era that went undefeated and won a state championship just two years ago and had a 23-game winning streak last season, they were ready to see how they measured up in the first week of the 2017-18 regular season.
“My top kids are pretty street-smart players,” Harms said the day before their first game at Marshall, Nov. 14. “I think they do a really good job at reading the defense, and (they) play hard. We may not have our best execution early in the game, but I look for us to come out of the gun and be ready to play well.”
