With the loss to Union Grove, the Comets (2-11) are still looking for their first Southern Lakes Conference win.

Jan. 13tin Jefferson the Comets missed easy lay-ups and never got their offense going in the 57-39 loss.

“Jefferson was a product of getting great looks and not finishing,” D-DHS head coach Bob Beighton said.  “We missed 11 layups in the first half.”

The Comets made only 13 shots on 59 attempts.

After falling behind 13-6 at the end of the first quarter, the Comets trailed 26-21 at halftime.

The Eagles outscored the Comets 31-18 in the second half to go on for the win.

William Brown had 10 points for the Comets, and Isiah Ramos added eight. Stephen Rodriguez had six points and six rebounds.

Jan. 14 in Williams Bay the Comets handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, winning 69-63.

After an 18-18 first-quarter tie, the Bulldogs pulled head going into halftime, taking a 38-30 lead.

In the second half it was a more balanced offensive attack by the Comets, propelling them to the 69-63 win after outscoring Williams Bay 39-25.

“We played individual, my-turn offense in the first half and then started to share the ball, push, penetrate and kick in the second to take the lead,” Beighton said.

Despite the win, Beighton was still frustrated with his team and their inability to finish around the basket.

“Even in that game, we counted 20 points in the paint we gave away on offense with our inability to finish lay-ups,” Beighton said.  “We need to be stronger going to the rack and stronger mentally in every facet of the game to be successful.”

Brown paced the Comets with 18 points, Isiah Ramos added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Jesse Collins had 12 points and six rebounds.

Isaac Ramos had 10 points in the win.

Last Friday the Comets hosted Union Grove, and it was close throughout much of the game, but the Comets were unable to get the win, losing 66-55.

Isiah Ramos led the Comets with 17 points, and Brown added 12.

Collins added 11 points and five rebounds.

The Comets will travel to Elkhorn tomorrow for a 7 p.m. conference game and on Saturday will host Big Foot in a double header with the girls’ team. Boys’ action starts at 6 p.m.

Tuesday the Comets travel to Westosha Central for a 7 p.m. game.
