Old World hosts first vintage game of the season

Old World Wisconsin, W372 S9727 Highway 67, Eagle, will break out the ashes (bats) and apples (balls) for the first vintage base ball (as the name was originally spelled) game of the season on Saturday, July 13, at 1:30 p.m.

The museum’s team, the Eagle Diamonds, wears authentic wool uniforms and plays by the 1860s rules of the game. They will take on the Milwaukee Cream Citys with a corps of new recruits for what promises to be a spirited match on the Ward School Field, located on the museum grounds.

After the match, guests are welcome to join the players on the field to try the vintage equipment and practice hitting and running bases. The game takes place during July’s “The World of Little House” event, featuring Laura Ingalls Wilder-related activities every day of the month.

Admission to the game is included with museum admission. Adults $16; children (5-17) $9 (children under 5 are free); students and senior citizens (65 and over) $14; family (two adults and two or more dependent children 5-17) $43. Base Ball Car Load pricing is in effect during base ball events:  $43 admits an entire car load (up to nine people).

The next vintage base ball game held at Old World Wisconsin is Aug. 3 at 1:30 p.m. against the Greenbush Dead Citys.

Old World Wisconsin

Old World Wisconsin, located in southeast Wisconsin and owned and operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society, is a premier outdoor museum of late 19th- and early 20th-century Midwestern immigrant farm and rural life.

During the daily operating season, the museum offers family friendly activities, led by period-clad interpreters, as they visit 10 working farmsteads, explore 12 heirloom gardens, interact with historic animal breeds, and try historic crafts and trades.

In 2013 the museum offers expanded activities every day that it is open, increased historic themes, and even more opportunities for guest engagement. Old World Wisconsin is open to the general public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends in May, daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 5, through Oct. 13. Special holiday programming is offered in November and December.
