Comets beat Westosha Central 49-48 after 65-45 loss to Burlington

The Delavan-Darien High School boys’ basketball team ended its Southern Lakes Conference season with a win over Westosha Central, giving them their second conference win.
Earlier in the week the Comets lost to Burlington which brought their conference season record to 2-12 and 7-15 overall.
Burlington won the conference, followed by Wilmot, Waterford, Union Grove, Elkhorn, Westosha Central, Lake Geneva Badger and D-DHS.
On Feb. 12, the Comets lost to a tough Burlington squad 65-45.
“A very good team as the conference champs,” D-DHS head coach Bob Beighton said. “We had to do a better job keeping their guards out of the paint.”
“We also struggled to finish around the basket. When we are not patient in the half court, we end up creating transition opportunities for the other team. That was an issue Tuesday,” Beighton said.
The Comets were outscored 34-20 in the first half and 31-25 in the second half on their way to the 65-45 loss.
Jesse Collins and John Damrow had nine points each to lead the Comets and Collins added seven rebounds.
Isaac Ramos had eight points and Danny Supernaw had six.
Friday night at Westosha Central, the Comets started the game with a big 13-2 first quarter advantage.
In the second quarter, the Comet offense and defense both took a hit when the Falcons outscored the Comets 19-8 to tie things up at halftime 21-21.

With the stepped up Comet defense, the Comets were able to hold on to a one-point second-half advantage and go on for the 49-48 win.
Collins paced the Comets with 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Nolan Dodge added 10 points and four rebounds and Isiah Ramos added seven points.
John Damrow had six points and five rebounds.
“We also got some great bench contributions from Jay Davis and Gabe Gonzales (4 points each),” Beighton said. “Overall a great team effort to get a win on the road in conference.”
The Comets started Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional action Tuesday against Union Grove. Results of the game were not known at press time.
If the Comets won, they play at Stoughton at 7 p.m. Friday.
