Badgers sweep Union Grove

The Lake Geneva Badger boys and girls basketball teams swept Union Grove in a double header last Friday at Union Grove.

The Badger boys defeated the Broncos 45-43. Badger (8-14, 3-11 Southern Lakes Conference) jumped out to an early 19-6 lead after one quarter and led 32-19 at the half. Union Grove (9-13, 7-7 SLC) came back strong in the third quarter outscoring the Badgers 18-4 to take a 37-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Badger pulled out the win in a low scoring 9-6 fourth quarter.

Rob Slagle led the Badgers with 16 points. Andrew Kazikowski led the Broncos with 23.

Badger lost to Elkhorn 51-46 on Feb. 12. Elkhorn (11-11, 7-7) led 16-10 after one but Badger tied it at the half at 27. The third quarter was nearly even but Elkhorn pulled away in the fourth outscoring the Badgers 17-11.

Tony Ashley led the Badgers with 11. Arik Anderson led the Elks with 18. Drew Bryson added 16.

The Badgers begin WIAA Regional play tomorrow night as the #6 seed at  #3 seed Janesville Craig (12-10, 9-9 Big Eight). The winner faces the winner of the Muskego (#7) vs Burlington (#2) game on Saturday night.

 

Girls beat Waterford and Union Grove

      The Badger girls took another step toward securing second place in the SLC with wins over Waterford and Union Grove last week.

Badger beat Waterford 49-35 at Waterford (11-9, 10-3) on Feb. 12. Badger led 14-11 after one and 23-21 at the half. The Badgers turned up the defense in Quarter 3 holding the Broncos to two points while netting 11 and pulled away from there.

Karina Reeves and Taylar Keenan each had 17 to lead all scorers. Megan Jensen led Waterford with 13.

Badger defeated Union Grove (8-12, 6-7) 38-33 as part of the double header with the boys last Friday. The win tied the Badgers with Waterford for second in the SLC at 10-3 with one conference game to play.

Badger faced Fort Atkinson (7-12) in a non-conference game Monday night and travels to Burlington to finish the regular season tonight. Waterford hosts Westosha Central (5-15, 3-10) tonight. With two wins over Waterford this season, a Badger win over Burlington (6-14, 3-10) would secure second place.

Badger got the #3 seed in the WIAA tournament and will face #6 seed Kenosha Tremper (8-14) on Friday, March 1. Badger beat Tremper 40-27 on Jan. 14. The winner will face the winner of Burlington (#7) vs Janesville Parker (#2) on Saturday, March 2.

Glogovsky competes at State

      Badger’s Remy Glogovsky took 21st in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:02.84) at the WIAA State Swim Meet at UW-Madison on Saturday.
