In its last game of the season, the Delavan-Darien High School football team hoped to pick up its second Southern Lakes Conference win in Wilmot.
At the end of the first quarter and with the 6-0 lead things were looking good, but then the second quarter happened, and the Comets went on for the 48-12 loss, finishing the season 1-7.
The Comets were outscored 34-0 in the second quarter and 14-0 in the third quarter in the loss.
Starting out the game, running back Stephen Rodriguez connected with John Damrow on a 29-yard touchdown pass to give the Comets the 6-0 lead.
The defenses of both teams did their jobs the rest of the way in the quarter and the Comets had the 6-0 lead to start the second quarter.
It was the second quarter when things took a downward turn for the Comets, and the Panthers went on to score 34 unanswered points to take the 34-6 halftime lead.
The Comet offense remained quiet in the third quarter, and Wilmot went on to score 14 more points to take the commanding 48-6 lead.
The Comets would score once more in the game on a 1-yard touchdown run by Landon Schramski but Wilmot went on to win, 48-12.
Offensively the Comets had a rough night with only four yards rushing and 124 passing yards.
Schramski led the offense with 16 yards rushing, but all other ball carriers were in negative yards. Schramski also had one touchdown run.
Jesse Collins had three passes on eight attempts for 56 yards, and Danny Supernaw had four completions on 12 attempts.
Rodriguez threw two complete passes and had a touchdown.
Rodriguez also collected 66 yards on four catches and Damrow had two catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively Damrow had six tackles and Lazaro Ozuna and Lee Schramski had five tackles each.
