Brian Emmett Davis, 81, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Janesville on Oct. 11, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Brian was the devoted son of the late Ruth McCarten and Emmett Davis.
Brian will be remembered by his loving family, wife of over 50 years, Carrin; children, Michael (Kim), and Shane (Valerie); grandchildren, Daniel, and Elizabeth; siblings, Kathy, Kevin, and Vicki (Dan); cousin, Bobby (Pennie); nieces, nephews, extended family, and many, many loving friends.
Brian was preceded in his death by his parents; and his sister, Sharon.
Affectionately known as “Sleeper” by his many friends, Brian was born in Milwaukee, where he spent several years before the family moved to Delavan, his long-time home. He joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17, standing out as a skillful boxer, and was honorably discharged in 1966 as a Journalist Third Class.
He briefly attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison before taking a job selling franchises, giving him an opportunity to see America from coast to coast.
Brian married Carrin Skogen in 1972, and with their son Michael, moved to Century City, California, where they remained for the rest of the 1970s. Returning to Delavan, where their second son Shane was born, Brian started his property rental business. In 2000, he built a beautiful home just outside of Allens Grove, where he and Carrin lived for many years.
His interests included woodworking, American history, Packers and Badgers football, fishing trips, current events, classic films and long walks in nature. Despite having no law degree, Brian frequently challenged unconstitutional property ordinances and other government overreaches, winning many victories.
More than anything, what brought him happiness and joy was any opportunity to be with his wife, children and adoring family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave., in Delavan. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan.
