Patricia Ann Babcock (nee Goeden), born May 11, 1938, in Milwaukee, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2023, in Sarasota, Florida.
She graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 1956 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a bachelor’s degree in teaching and later earned a master’s degree as a reading specializing.
In 1959, she married Gordy Babcock at the Episcopal Church in Whitewater. Pat received her first job in the teaching profession in McHenry, Illinois, and taught there for a year and a half.
She would later teach for over 32 years in the Elkhorn School District mainly teaching Reading at the Elkhorn Middle Schools. After retiring, Pat and Gordy did extensive traveling in both the U.S. and Europe. They especially loved the countries of England and Italy.
Pat and Gordy were six-month snowbirds for 20-some years before permanently relocating to their condo in Sarasota, Florida. Pat enjoyed reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She shared her love of the Chicago Bears and Cubs with her husband and was the hostess of many Bear Central gatherings. She loved receiving photos of her family so that she could keep track of her family and friends’ adventures.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aleda Keller Ohloff and Jerome Goeden. Pat was also predeceased by Gordon after 60 years of marriage.
Pat is survived by children, Tracy Essman and Ward Babcock (Colleen); grandchildren, Jazz Brellenthin (Josh), and Jay Essman (Hailey); and great-grandchildren, Noah and Rylee Brellenthin; brother-in-law, Randy Babcock (Beverly); nieces, nephews and friends from both Wisconsin and Chartwell Green in Sarasota, Florida.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors/nurses at Sarasota Doctors Hospital for all the wonderful care our Mom received during her stay.
Funeral services will be private with cremation in Florida and she will be interred with her husband at Sarasota National Cemetery.
