Dennis R. George, 80, of East Troy, found peace Aug. 24, 2019, at Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, after a brief illness. He was born July 3, 1939, in Milwaukee to the late Rural and Genevieve George.
Dennis and his family have been residents of East Troy since 1954, when his parents purchased and ran the bar known then as George and Jean’s Bar, the now Al Smith’s Saloon.
Dennis graduated East Troy High School in 1957, then honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. After which, he came home, and helped his parents at the bar until taking over in the 1970s changing the name to Denny’s.
Dennis loved music and was musically inclined. He could sing, play guitar and the accordion and formed a small combo band called the Melody Merchants.
He had a fondness for the old classic comedies such as “Mash” and the “Andy Griffith Show.” He was also a past member of the East Troy Lions Club.
Dennis is survived by his sister, Kathleen Onsgaard; niece, Janeen (Jeff) McPherson; nephew, Ted (Jill) Onsgaard; and great-nephews, Cole and Mason McPherson and Ben Boettcher.
He was further preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Craig Onsgaard.
A celebration of Denny’s life will be held at a later date. Legacy Funeral Services, East Troy, has the honor of serving the family.
