Phyllis “Phyl” D. Welch, 92, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2109, surrounded by her family. She was born in Troy on March 15, 1927 to the late Frank and Margaret (Chart) Friemoth.
Phyl graduated from East Troy High School in 1945. After graduating, she set off on an adventure with a group of her girlfriends to spend a year living in Burbank, California. After returning home, she started working at the East Troy State Bank.
She later worked for the East Troy School District as a secretary.
She married her husband of 58 years, Robert “Bob” Welch, on Dec. 12, 1959. After starting their family, Phyl worked for many years as the lunch lady-playground supervisor for the Troy Center School. She also worked as the Town of Troy clerk.
She volunteered her time as a leader for both the Troy Center Boy Scout and Girl Scout Clubs.
Upon her retirement, Phyl enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Brad and Amanda. She loved to play cards and looked forward to getting together with her “card friends” several times a month. Phyl was a member of both the East Troy Woman’s Club and St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her children, Daniel Welch, Patricia Schmidt, Susan (Randy) Condon; grandchildren, Bradley and Amanda Condon; sister, Mary Ellen; brothers, Leo, Vince, Milton, Larry, Allen, Richard; nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was further preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Marge, Betty, Bonnie, Rose Marie, Joan; brothers, Francis, Robert and Jim.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers, Catey, Janelle and Laura, for their loving care and support. A funeral Mass was held.
Legacy Funeral Services, East Troy, had the honor of serving the family.
