Jean Ann Carter, 79, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side, on the evening of April 27, 2018. She was born on Christmas Day, 1938, to Wilbur and Atha Ruelle, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
Jean graduated from Milwaukee County Hospital School of Nursing in 1959, and two weeks later married James H. Carter. They were married for 50 years, until his death in 2010.
Jean worked as a home healthcare nurse for more than 20 years in Walworth County, as well as many years of volunteering for the East Troy Ambulance.
Jean and Jim raised their family in East Troy and later in life, along with many dear friends, lived in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Jean’s last years were spent living near her daughter in Tamworth, New Hampshire.
Survivors include her sister, Kay Schmidt, Hartland; brother, Tom (Mary Kay) Ruelle, Fredricksburg, Texas; daughter, Amy (Bob), Tamworth, New Hampshire; sons, Gerry (Becky), Lusby, Maryland, and Tim (Emily), Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Sianna, Will, Abe, Felix, Beau and Dylan.
A ceremony with family and friends to celebrate Jean’s life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 1981 Beulah Ave., East Troy.
Jean spent the last months of her life in the compassionate care of the staff at the Merriman House in North Conway, New Hampshire. Donations in her memory may be made to a local visiting nurse association.
