Janice A. Stubbs (Stoddard) 82, of East Troy, passed away comfortably and peacefully at Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, after her battle with Leukemia.
And young she was. Courageous and sharp minded, she pushed herself to the limit right up until the day she had to enter hospice care, where she could finally push herself no more. Janice always put others first, and made sure nothing went undone.
Janice was born on Feb. 18, 1934, in Elkhorn, to the late Archie and Rose Stoddard. She grew up on the family farm on Highway 20 just west of East Troy. She attended East Troy High School and graduated with honors in 1951.
Janice married the late Willard “Bill” Stubbs at the Troy Center Methodist Church on June 4, 1955. They were married for 52 years until Bill passed away on Aug. 13, 2007.
Jan worked at Trent Tube Company for 12 years then at the Parker Pen Company for five years. She then worked at the Northwest Telephone Company in North Prairie for 18 years before she took an early retirement. But Jan never really retired, she worked at the East Tory Public Library for another 20 years, where she really enjoyed being with the people and her co-workers.
Jan was the financial secretary for St. James United Methodist Church for 14 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 52 years, and held the position of grand officer for the state of Wisconsin. Jan also held positions of president, secretary, and treasurer for National Mutual Benefit. She had a very busy life helping others and volunteered at the East Troy Food Pantry as well.
Jan is survived by her son, Jeffrey Stubbs; sisters, Melva (Richard) Alderman and Audrey (Jim) Fusek; brother, Lee (Vicky) Stoddard and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Jan was further preceded in death by her sister, Patsy Baerbock.
Memorial service for Jan will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at St. James United Methodist Church, 2945 Main St., East Troy. The Rev. Nhia Wahn will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
