JERRY KENNEALY

Jerry Kennealy, 86, died Nov. 30, 2016. He was born in St. Paul, and attended Marshall High School in St. Paul, graduated from Macalester College with a bachelor’s degree and had masters degrees from Macalester and the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. He served honorably in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired in 1990 from public school education in Wisconsin after 36 years of service. He and his wife, LaVonne ‘Vonnie’, then moved to Sun Lakes, Ariz., where they have resided for the past 25 years. A fitness advocate and avid golfer, he also had great interest in all sports, having played multiple sports in high school and then later coaching basketball and baseball. Some of his favorite moments were keeping in touch with his former athletes and students.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years; four children, Terry, Lori (Jon) Swanell, Dennis (Jodi); Kevin; grandchildren, Erin, Dylan, Taylor, Shaena, Isaac and Tori; sister, Betty Maw, her four children and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ann (Kennealy) Gilbertson and Joseph Kennealy

Services are Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m., at St. Steven’s Catholic Church in Sun Lakes. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz., are preferred.
