Dale Nick Stettler, 67, of Whitewater, passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2016.
He was a proud family man, avid sports fan, veteran of the Vietnam War, and lover of the outdoors.
Dale was born in Milwaukee on July 27, 1949, the son of Ralph and Esther (Koller) Stettler. He attended Washington Grade School, Longfellow Junior High School, and graduated from Wauwatosa East High School in 1967.
Dale married Gayle (Corcoran), at Washington Lake in Shawano, on June 3, 1972. Together, they attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Dale taught English at Edgerton High School from 1974-76.
Dale and Gayle were longtime partners in construction, real estate investing, and parenting of their three children Katie (Matthew) Johnson of East Troy, Koller (Carly Lund) Stettler of Whitewater, and Marie (Kaleb) Kleine of Blacksburg, Va.
Dale enjoyed playing with toy trains with his grandson, Hendrix.
Dale was an Eagle Scout and loved camping and fishing. He served as an adult leader for the Boy Scouts. He was an active community member in Edgerton and Whitewater, coaching Little League, basketball, and soccer, as well as teaching Sunday school at the Edgerton United Methodist Church. You could often spot him on the sidelines of his children’s sporting events.
After suffering a major stroke in 2004, he made an amazing recovery. Over the past 12 years, he was more determined than ever to be present and active in the lives of his family and friends.
Dale’s family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the First English Lutheran Church, 401 W. Main St., Whitewater, with the Rev. Jerry Wendt officiating. All of Dale’s friends and family are welcome for dinner and drinks from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at Casual Joe’s, 319 W. James St., Whitewater.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the regional “Send a Scout to Camp” program through the Boy Scouts of America at aplacetogive.scouting.org and selecting “Ways to Give” on the homepage followed by “Send a Scout to Camp.”
Dale’s family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff at all of the numerous facilities that aided in his recoveries and care.
