Elizabeth “Libby” Joyce Shafer, 83, of Beloit, died June 29, 2016.
She was born June 21, 1933, in Darien to Fredrick and Ester (Shipman) Starin. She graduated from Darien High School in 1951. She married Ronald Shafer in 1954. They had four children – Ron Jr., Bob, David and Lynn. She worked for Culligan Water, Borg Industries and Lakeland Medical Center and retired in 1995. She was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Darien.
She is survived by her children Robert (Wendy) Shafer, of Delavan, David Shafer, of Williams Bay, Lynn (Melody Teutla) Shafer, of Beloit; and her grandchildren Joann (Ryan) Shafer-Boviall, of Janesville, John Shafer, of Delavan, and Kyle Shafer, of Delavan; her nephews Dick Locy, Wayne Locy, Mitchell Shafer and Mathew Shafer; and nieces Donna (Raymond) Ruhff and Benita Locy.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Gwen Locy; her twin sister, Harriet Starin; and her son, Ron Jr.
A private family service will be Saturday at Spring Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Sisk officiating. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Twin Oaks Homeless Shelter and the Vets Roll. A special thank you to her second daughter, Melody, in assisting with her daily care and to Dr. Leo’s nurse Tammy who helped and guided the family so many times in the medical field.
