Nancy Williams MacGregor, beloved community member of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Delavan, passed away June 15, 2016, at Silver Maples of Chelsea in Chelsea, Mich.
Born June 19, 1924, to Dale E. Williams and Fern E. Williams (nee Bartlett) in Pontiac, Mich., Nancy graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School and attended Katherine Gibbs School in Chicago and Michigan State University. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard S. MacGregor, in 1945.
Nancy was a tireless advocate for mental health services. She led the 1973 referendum to establish the Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township and served as a charter member of the board. She was elected as an Oak Park Township Trustee in 1979 and served in that capacity until 1987. Nancy was a talented and prolific gardener, knitter and painter. Her friends and family will remember her generous nature, iron will, sharp tongue and warm heart.
She is survived by her daughter, Gay MacGregor, of Ann Arbor, Mich., son Steven MacGregor and his wife, Mary, of River Forest, Ill., and her grandchildren and their families – Reid, Lindsay, Graham and Fletcher McCarthy, of Chelsea, Mich., Andrew, Lauren, Smith and Ray MacGregor and Blake, Elyse and Madison MacGregor of Oak Park, Ill., Scott and Kelsey MacGregor, of Chicago, and Kaitlin McCarthy and Nathan Banka, of Seattle. She leaves many friends in Wisconsin, Florida, Illinois and Michigan.
Nancy was a member of the Silver Maples Resident Council. The family is especially grateful to the wonderful staff at Silver Maples of Chelsea and has created the Nancy MacGregor Resident Care Giver Scholarship Fund to support the resident caregivers in furthering their educations.
