Judith “Judy” S. Smith, 74, of Delavan and St. Pete Beach, Fla., passed away May 4, 2016, at Holton Manor in Elkhorn.
She was born in Fargo, N.D., April 3, 1942, to Walter and Hildegard (Thill) Stafford. Judy went to Madonna High School in Aurora and to Northern Illinois University. She married Arthur C. Smith III, May 15, 1965, in Aurora, Ill. They lived in Glenview, Ill., for more than 30 years and then moved permanently to the Delavan Club in 1998. She was the owner of HCS Hairbows, which designed and created hair accessories for cheerleaders. She provided beautiful hairbows for more than 1 million cheerleaders throughout the United States for more than 27 years. Together, they traveled to many destinations including Spain, Ireland, England, Virgin Islands, Caribbean and Alaska and numerous other states. Judy greatly enjoyed being a member of the Delavan Lake Garden Club and the Delavan Lake Book Club.
Judy is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Art, of Delavan; two children, Jennifer Ann (Cyrus) Green, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Michael Patrick Smith, of Delavan; a granddaughter, Julia Elizabeth Green, of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Jean Stafford, of Oswego, Ill.; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Charles S. (Peggy) Smith, of Pauma Valley, Calif.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sandra; and a brother, Randall.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave. in Delavan. Visitation was Sunday at Monroe Funeral Home and will take place an hour before the service at the funeral home Monday. Memorials can be directed to Congdon Gardens in Delavan.
