Ruth Vivian Olson died April 20, 2016, of natural causes.
She was born April 2, 1925, in Jefferson County. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 and began working to support World War II efforts.
After the war, she met and married Robert Olson on Aug. 7, 1948. Together, they owned and operated the Darien Food Mart for more than 20 years in downtown Darien. After retiring, the two traveled through all 50 states and Canada and spent time at the family cabin in Tomahawk.
Ruth’s first love was always her family, the recipients of her sweetness and generosity. Over the years, she spent numerous hours caring for her beloved grandchildren and attending all their sports and musical performances. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Diane Olson, and Rhonda (Tim) Bliss, of Darien; a sister, Evelyn Anderson, of Orfordville; and four grandchildren, Kara (Dan) Knudsen, of San Diego, Calif., Kelsey (Stephan) Pollard, of Queens, N.Y., Tyler (fiancee Julianna Mulroy) Bliss, of Boston, Kylie Bliss, of Darien; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and two brothers. Funeral service was Monday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert P. Rickman officiating. Burial was in the Darien Cemetery following the service.
Memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with School are appreciated. The Olson family would like to thank Pastor Rickman and members of the church, the Darien Rescue Squad, Darien Police Department, Dr. Nancy Rainiero and caregivers Diane, Rhonda, Tim and neighbor Jim for making it possible for Ruth to continue living in her beloved home.
