Alice Lucille Rogers went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 20, 2016. She was born in Genoa City, on the Gifford family farm on Jan. 6, 1924, to Dr. Edward and Evelyn Smith, and the family settled in East Troy where they established the East Troy Veterinary practice.
Alice graduated from East Troy High School in 1941 and then attended Wheaton College.
She married the late John J. Rogers, a captain in the Army Air Corp, on July 27, 1942. After the war and his veterinarian schooling in Ames, Iowa, they returned in 1951 to make their home in East Troy and to join the practice at the East Troy Veterinary Clinic where they worked together for 52 years.
In addition to raising three sons and managing the practice of a busy country veterinarian, Alice served the community and East Troy Bible Church as a pianist and organist. Even with this busy life, the dinner table was always set and ready to welcome any visitors to an amazing meal.
Alice is survived by her sons, John, East Troy, David (Barbara), East Troy, and James (Carol), Hartland; grandchildren, Joel, Nathan, Jordan, Mandy Rogers and Emily Gilbertson; great-grandchildren, Christian, Chase, Micah and Graham; brother, Charles Smith; sisters, Muriel (Russell) Smith Skinkle, and Carol (Charles) Smith Rowntree; and many nieces and nephews.
Alice was further preceded in death by her sister, Delores Smith Parrot, and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Christianson Smith.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29, at the East Troy Bible Church, 2660 North St. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Internment will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, highways 20 and ES in East Troy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the East Troy Bible Church mission fund are appreciated.
The family extends thanks to MaryAnn Glowinski and friends at The Heritage Senior Living where Alice enjoyed living for seven years. Thanks also to special friends Mona Barutha, Kay Dowding, Gene Thompson, Joan Funk, the East Troy Bible Church family, and the staff at Miller Pharmacy and Linden Grove in Mukwonago for their special care for Alice.
