James A. Ritchie, 69, of Delavan, died Oct. 2, 2015, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.
He was born in Prairie du Chien on Jan. 9, 1946, to James and Alletta (Hooverson) Ritchie. He married Barbara Miller in 1969 in Baraboo. He worked as a driver’s education teacher at Delavan-Darien High School then went on to the Delavan Police Department for 34 years and became a lieutenant during that time. He also worked as head of security at Andes Candies. He was elected as a municipal judge for the city of Delavan in 2010.
James is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara, of Delavan; a daughter, Christina (Keith) Shimon, of Glenview, Ill; a son, James (Toni) Ritchie, of Waukesha; four grandchildren, Sarah and Allison Ritchie and Brayden and Ashley Shimon; a sister, Nancy (Jerry) Wagner, of Boscobel; and nieces; and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial mass will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Ave., Delavan. Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave., and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
