John A. Schmidt, 68, of North Augusta, S.C., and formerly of Delavan, died unexpectedly June 9, 2015.
He was born in Delavan, Nov. 19, 1946, to Arthur and Elizabeth Schmidt. He was a 1964 graduate of Delavan-Darien High School and attended Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee where he earned a business degree in 1968. He then entered the U.S. Army and during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. On June 3, 1972, he married Pamela.
In 2011, he retired after 32 years with Textron in Augusta, Ga. He was served as secretary for the Sertoma Club in Augusta and was a member of the River Golf Club where he played in several golf groups.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife, Pamela; his son, Joseph (Dana); his daughter, Jennifer (John) Filbert; and grandchildren, Nicholas, John, Olivia and Jackson.
A memorial mass will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Ave. in Delavan. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday. Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Augusta Sertoma Club, P.O. Box 6184, North Augusta, S.C., 29861.
