RICHARD L. HUMMEL

Richard “Dick” Lewis Hummel, 72, of Delavan, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2015.

He was born in Elkhorn on June 16, 1942, to Robert and Helen (Schafbuch) Hummel.

He graduated from Delavan-Darien High School in 1961, and entered the Air Force. Upon discharge from military service, he returned to the family farm.

Growing up, the Walworth County Fair was an important part of his life, showing animals and exhibiting crops, and is also where he met his wife, Dianne. They were married in February1962.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne (Nichols) Hummel, of Delavan; three daughters, Shannon Lupini, of Neosho, Mo., Stephanni Stronach, of Darien, and Samantha (Tim) Lange, of Cobb; three grandchildren, whom he loved and adored, Mackenzie Stronach, Madison Stronach and Noah Lange; his sister, Mary (Ray) Scott, of Clinton; and other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

One of his favorite pastimes included attending sporting events, especially to watch his grandchildren compete. He was a faithful supporter of events at D-DHS and loved to watch the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers play.

Dick loved anything to do with animals, and his farm north of Delavan served as a place for suburban FFA or 4-H members to raise their projects.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delavan. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Betzer Funeral Home in Delavan and one hour before the church service Saturday. Military rites will follow the service.

Betzer Funeral Home is assisting the family.
