Woodrow W. “Woody” Kramer, 98, of Palmyra passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, 2015, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1916 in Tongonoxie, Kan., the son of the late Mathias and Ida (Redman) Kramer. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marilin Westphal, who preceded him in death in 1994.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, forging lifelong friendships. Woody participated in the Battle of the Bulge with the 6th Armored Division under General Patton receiving many honors, including the Bronze Star. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and Moose Lodge of Elgin, Ill. Woody owned and operated Kramer’s Korner Restaurant in Elgin, Ill., and was affiliated with Kramer Brothers Restaurants with his brothers Mike, Bob and Ray.
Woody was a devoted father, grandfather and dear friend to many. He is survived by his two children, Michael (Patricia) of Palmyra and Karen Tiffin of South Elgin, Ill.; grandchildren, Gregory and Keriann Kramer, Eric (Rachel Gorecki) Pelletier, Nathan (Danielle) Pelletier, Brianne (Mike) Martin, Drew (Audrey) Tiffin, Melissa (Mike) Rauchmiller, and Mark (Beth) Blevins; brother, Robert (Guyla) Kramer of Elgin, Ill.
Woody is further survived by many loved great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Woody’s warm generous and joyful spirit coupled with his love of life and adventure made him an extraordinary and special man. He will be greatly missed by many.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at Haase-Lockwood and Associates Funeral Home 320 W. Main St. Palmyra. Visitation will be held Monday from noon until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park Elgin, Ill.
