Gertrude Mae “Gert” Kooiman, 85, of Edgerton, passed away on Jan. 17, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison.
She was born on March 31, 1929, in Melrose Park, Ill., daughter of the late Calvert and Lillian Eva (Tyler) Heath. She was united in marriage to Peter Kooiman on May 10, 1952, in Frankfort, Ill. He preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1997. She was a member of Edgerton United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, quilting, traveling, having family parties, but her favorite love was playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Edgerton United Methodist Church Joy Club.
She is survived by her children, Peter (Sandra) Kooiman III, of Appleton, Karen Coakley, of Beloit, Janice (Timothy) Swenson, of Elk Mound, Kenneth (Marcia) Kooiman, of Delavan, Wesley (Wilma) Kooiman, of Edgerton, and Larry (Cheryl) Kooiman, of Wauwautosa; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Dralle, of New Lenox, Ill. She was preceded in death by one brother and his wife, Calvert (Neva) Heath, and one brother-in-law, Clyde Dralle.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Edgerton United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Barbara Wells and Sue Priebe officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Whitewater. Friends may call at Ehlert Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Highway 51 North in Edgerton, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday.
