EVELYN A. ELVERMAN

Evelyn A. Elverman, 88, of New Munster, passed away Nov. 18, 2014, at Lakeland Health Care Center.

Born in Bloomfield on May 30, 1926, she was the daughter of Andrew and Regina (nee Dziegiel) Banas. She spent her early life in Genoa City where she graduated from Genoa City High School.

On Sept. 10, 1960, she was united in marriage to Richard L. Elverman. Following marriage, they made their home in New Munster where they raised their family. Richard preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2008.

Evelyn was a homemaker, a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, was an avid Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing solitaire and Yahtzee. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

She is survived by her children Diane (Don) Degen, Jackie (Mick) Paasch, Joanne Henney (Joe Miller), Dan (Cindy) Elverman and Ron (Cindy) Elverman; grandchildren Kristen and Brian Degen and Justin Paasch. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Pat Elverman, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters Edna Bowman, Bernice Rebel, Josephine Chesick and Sophie Lenz; brothers Walter Banas, Frederick Banas and Leonard Banas; and sisters- and brothers-in-law.

Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Webber and his staff for their exceptional care and compassion.

Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the mass at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
