Hilbert E. Steen, 74, of Elkhorn, died Friday March 7, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Necedah, the son of the late Arthur A. and Jessie M. (Jameson) Steen. On Sept. 27, 1961 he was united in marriage to Mary D. Murphy in Chicago.
He served in the Army Reserves and was a member of the Chicago Fire Department for 18 years. After moving to Wisconsin he ran two successful businesses.
He also drove school bus for 12 years, most recently with the Dousman Bus Company of Delavan. Hib, as he was known by his close friends and family, enjoyed fishing, travelling, woodworking, and working around the family property on his tractor.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary; his five children, Michael Steen, of Whitewater, Laura McBain, of Elkhorn, Susan (Jeff) Olson, of Elkhorn, Jennifer Brower, of Aurora, Ill., and Chad Steen, of Elkhorn; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Norris, of Oak Creek, and Mary Lois (Jerry) Werwie, of Kenosha; and by his brother John (Melanie) Steen, of Omro.
A private family service will be held at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home in Elkhorn.
