Arthur “Art” Douglas, 89, died Jan 24, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Sept. 2, 1924, to John and Violet Douglas (Hartman) in Milwaukee.
He attended Blaine High School. He worked many years at Allis Chalmer’s as a welder.
He moved to East Troy in 1999. According to his family, he could fix anything and if it could not be fixed he “jerry rigged” it.
He loved to build and fly balsa wood airplanes and flew Piper Cubs. In his younger years, he drove midget racecars and worked on the Pitt Crew on the Indy Circuit. He loved to garden and had the best strawberries and vegetables.
He was well versed in politics and was a big patriot serving his country during World War II on the destroyer escort USS Rich.
Survivors include his daughters, Sr. Mary Sean “Susie,” Jennifer (David) Baack and Donna (Scott) Wagner; sister, Ruth Viscioni; grandchildren, Julianna (Cory Burmeister) Cefalu, Hailey, Hannah, Hayden, and Hunter Wagner; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Carter Burmeister; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Legacy Funeral Services, 2974 Main St., East Troy. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
