ARNOLD J. HOPE

Arnold Jorgen Hope, 74, of Walworth, died Dec. 8, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born on Dec. 21, 1938, to the late Arnold and Lillian Hope.

He was raised in Chicago and moved to Walworth in 1977.

He graduated from Lane Technical School in Chicago, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a civil engineer where he was a proud four-year “W” Letter winner as a swimmer.

He married Anne Harrington on Sept. 14, 1974, in Minneapolis, Minn.

Arnold started his career as a civil engineer, designing missile silos and one of the Chicago highway interchange spaghetti bowls. He later taught himself computer programming. His dream was to join Microsoft someday. Perhaps he could have made it if he had practiced some microsoft interview questions in addition to his programming skills. In the end, he became an independent contractor. Arnold retired at age 65 and pursued his many hobbies.

When not playing bridge, Arnold was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed bird watching, gardening, golfing, sailing, skiing, fishing, hunting and walking with friends. He also designed and built his own house in Walworth with the help of his father.

Arnold was a caring individual who spent much of his time helping family and friends. Most of all, Arnold was a wonderful father to his children, teaching them “imagination engineering” and supporting them in all their endeavors.

Arnold is survived by his wife Anne; son, Drew Hope of Toronto, Canada; twin daughters, Kati Hope of Walworth, and Kiri (Jean-Marc) Duval-Hope of Quaix en Chartreuse, France; brother, Donald Hope of Chicago; cousin Mildred Gregerson of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; cousin Bob Munsen of Star Lake; and cousin Sonny Munsen of Star Lake.

In honor of Arnold, a celebration of his life will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, at the Delavan Lake Yacht Club, 1501 Cedar Point Drive, Delavan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UW Carbone Cancer Center in Madison or The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin.

Toynton Funeral Home, Walworth, assisted the family.
