RICHARD S. MACGREGOR

Richard S. MacGregor, 90, of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Delavan, died Nov. 18, 2013, at Silver Maples Retirement Community of Chelsea. He was born on Nov. 13, 1923 in Pontiac, Mich., the son of Arthur H. and Mabel (Sliter) MacGregor.

Richard was passionate about his family and friends, flying, skiing, tennis and golf.

He acquired a love of flying in the U.S. Navy where he served as a flight instructor during World War II in Pensacola, Fla. He was an eternal optimist and felt lucky to continue being active and flying until he was nearly 90 years old.

He attended Michigan Tech University and graduated from Kettering University in 1947. He was president and owner of West Side Buick in Chicago from 1949-58. He retired from a career as an investment broker at Paine Webber (UBS) at age 72.

A talented stained glass artist and woodworker specializing in miniatures and model building; his work is displayed at the St. Lucie County Regional History Center in Ft. Pierce, Fla.

Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Nancy Williams MacGregor; sister, Margaret Owens of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Gay MacGregor of Ann Arbor, Mich.; son, Steven (Mary) MacGregor of River Forest, Ill.; his grandchildren and their families: Reid, Lindsay, Graham, and Fletcher McCarthy of Chelsea, Mich.; Andrew, Lauren, and Smith MacGregor and Blake and Elyse MacGregor of Oak Park, Ill.; Scott MacGregor and Kelsey Huggett of Chicago; and Kaitlin McCarthy and Nathan Banka of Seattle, Wash.

He leaves many friends in Wisconsin, Florida, Illinois and Michigan.
