Shirley Ann Helming, 81, of Whitewater, formerly a resident of Fairhaven Senior Living, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 at Hearthstone Memory Care, Whitewater.
Shirley was born on Dec. 29, 1931, in Sheboygan, to the late Oscar and Rose (Fistler) Stichert.
She graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1950.
Shirley married Roger Helming on June 6, 1953. They lived in Whitewater while Roger finished his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Shirley followed her teacher husband to Stockbridge, Monroe, Sheboygan and back to Whitewater.
She worked at UW-Whitewater in the Budget and Planning Department as a program assistant for more than 20 years. She retired in January, 1991.
Shirley was always very involved with the churches in the cities her husband taught, helping with committees, teaching Sunday school and playing piano. She was a member of the Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Whitewater.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Hope (Chuck) Lindholm, Whitewater, Hal Helming, Whitewater, David Helming, McFarland, Heidi (Dan) Jaworski, Waterford; grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Michael and Kathlin Helming.
A cremation memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Whitewater, with the Revs. Phil Milam and Kendall Nordstrom officiating.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Immanuel Church Cemetery, Town of Herman, Sheboygan County.
Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
Memorials to MS Society or to the Congregational Church United Church of Christ are suggested.
Shirley is with God/Jesus, a place she knew and wanted to be after a great and rewarding life.
