Jesse James Messerschmidt, 97, Darien, died peacefully at his home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born March 17, 1916, in Bloomer, to William Messerschmidt and Grace Campbell.
He married Babe Wenzel on Jan. 24, 1946 in Darien.
He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a charter member of Wilkins-Kelly Post 450 of the American Legion. Jesse was an active and long time member of Triune Lutheran Church.
He and his wife owned and operated Messerschmidt Upholstery and Furniture Refinishing in Darien.
Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Laurie, Darien; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sons, William and Barry; brothers, Ted, Earl and Forest; and a sister, Lillian.
Services were Oct. 9 at Triune Lutheran Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Dale Blanchard officiating.
Burial with Military Rites in Mt. Philip Cemetery, Allen’s Grove, followed the funeral luncheon at the church.
Memorials to Triune Lutheran Church are suggested.
