Harold L. DeWeerd, 82, of Delavan, died Aug. 4, 2013, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born March 6, 1931, in Orange City, Iowa, to the late Tony and Adrianna (Van Peursem) DeWeerd.
He attended Orange City Christian School and Northwestern Academy in Orange City. He graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1955, and Calvin Seminary n 1957. He earned his Certificate of Financial Planning in 1989.
He wore many hats in his working years, but he would tell you he enjoyed most the years he spent in his own business, DeWeerd Financial Services. He served one term as Delavan Town Chairman and several years on the board of the Walworth County Taxpayers Alliance.
He married his wife of almost 58 years, Bernice VanderVeen, Aug. 26, 1955, in Delavan.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Sheri, Sacramento, Calif., and Lori (Rich) Stearns, Chicago, Ill.; sister, Phyllis (Wes) DeKock; brother-in-law, Albert VanderVeen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was further preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
