Richard “Dick” Pierce Baumann, 78, of Delavan, passed away June 19, 2013, at a long-term care facility in Delavan. Dick was born in Golf, Ill., Nov. 4, 1934, to Frederick and Francis (Taylor) Baumann.
A graduate of Lake Forest College, Dick tended bar and later managed a number of nightclubs in Chicago before opening the Hideout in the late 1960s.
Dick was married three times and had a daughter, Roberta, with his second wife, Janet.
He always said three times was the charm when he married his third wife, Bobette, whom he loved dearly and with whom he spent more than 20 years until she passed away too soon in 1993.
Dick and Bobbie and her five children moved from Chicago for a better life in the Lake Geneva area in 1972. They first lived in Williams Bay where he continued to tend bar at a number of establishments, including The Office, and owned and operated Drabek Pier Service.
He later purchased a tavern in Delavan, naming it Hogan’s Goat, and operated that establishment until his retirement. Dick and Bobbie moved to Delavan around 1991.
He was a member of the Walworth County Tavern League and the Williams Bay Lions Club.
Dick loved people and animals, and he loved life. His smile and sense of humor were legendary. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by a daughter, Roberta (Tim Brubaker) Baumann; stepdaughters, Francine (Don) Ceschi, Jaycee Dahlke, Colleen Gunn and Donna (Ian) Voegeli; stepgrandchildren; nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bobbie; stepson, Thomas Gunn; brothers, George and Frederick Jr.; sister, Mary Wallen; and several in-laws.
Services will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave., Delavan. Memorials may be sent to the Humane Society of your choosing.
