Dennis Edward Nagl, 63, of Darien, died of natural causes at his home on June 2, 2013. He was born Sept. 23, 1949, in North Lake, Ill., the son of Frank Otto Nagl and Margaret J. Meyer. He married Nancy Cave on June 26, 1971, in Palatine, Ill.
Dennis “Denny” was employed for more than 30 years in the Maintenance and Engineering Department at Memorial and Centegra Hospitals, and for the last several years, at Mary Endres Elementary School, in Woodstock, Ill.
Along with being the proud co-owner with his wife of the Darien and Sharon Ice Cream Shoppes, Dennis also enjoyed working building and remodeling projects, tending to his garden, maintaining beehives and chickens on his farmette, and spending whatever time he could with his family.
He was a hard-working, unselfish man who enjoyed helping others, a dedicated husband, and always a terrific father and grandfather. He attended Lakeland Community Church in Elkhorn, enjoyed the White Sox and Brewers, and loved to check things off his to-do lists.
His genuine concern for others, Christian principles, and distinctive laugh left lasting impressions on those who knew Dennis over the years and he will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Justin (Chelsey), East Troy; daughters, Sarah, Hampshire, Ill., April (Ryan), Janesville, and Becky (Aaron), Williams Bay; brothers, Ron (Cory), Spring Green, Gary (Pat), Deer Park, Ill, Al (Lynn), Berwyn, Ill.; sister, Marie (Paul) Herl, Loveland, Colo.; and grandchildren, Faith, Emma, Max, Kayla and Dylan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday, at Lakeland Community Church, N. 3181 Highway 67, Lake Geneva, with the Rev. Josh Amstutz officiating. There will be a gathering from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.
Betzer Funeral Home, Delavan, is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Darien Emergency Medical Services Department.
