He was united in marriage to Ruby Ann O’Donnell on June 2, 1956, in Lake Geneva.
Del served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked as a metal spinner for over 35 years with Lake Geneva Spindustries, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elkhorn and Elkhorn VFW and American Legion Post #45. He liked to fish and especially enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in his backyard.
Del was a very selfless and caring man, a devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather, who will be truly missed by all that knew him and loved him.
Del is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruby; three children, David (Angie) Recknagel, Connie (Jerome) Rudolph and Cathy (George) Verdick, all of Elkhorn; five grandchildren, Tyler Meddaugh, Joshua and Nicholas Recknagel, Brittni (Dustin Moody) Recknagel, and Katie Rudolph; and one sister, Marian Clary, of Elkhorn.
Del was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kathleen Ann Recknagel, and a brother, Stuart Recknagel.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 2, 2013, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 415 Devendorf St., Elkhorn, with the Rev. David Rau officiating. Visitation was at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
A private burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Tibbets.
