Tory Lindland, 90, of Walworth, formerly of Burlington, met his Savior face to face on Jan. 1, 2013.
Pastor Tory, as he was lovingly called, was born in the country of Norway on July 14, 1922. He came to the United States as an infant. He was raised in a Christian home in New Jersey and New York with his three brothers and sister.
After graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Army ski troops during World War II. He received a citation from King Olav for helping liberate Norway from the Nazis.
In 1946 he married his sweetheart, Florence Larsen. They lived in New York where their daughters, Nancy, Carol, and Sue were born. They were active in the Park Evangelical Free Church.
Tory worked in construction with his dad for 15 years. In 1962, at the age of 40, God led Tory into full time ministry. That began with three years of school at Moody Bible Institute, followed by seven years of pastoring at Salem Evangelical Free Church in Chicago. There he helped start a Spanish ministry and a Christian school. He began a long relationship with TEAM and served on the board for more than 30 years.
In 1970, Tory was called as associate pastor to the Winnetka Bible Church. He then served as executive director of timber-lee Christian Center, a Christian camp in East Troy. He and his wife then moved to the East Coast where Tory served as district superintendent for the Evangelical Free Church of America.
In 1982, Tory and Flo accepted the call to the Hershey Free Church in Hershey, Pa., where they served for the next 16 years.
For the last 13 years, Tory and Flo have lived in Wisconsin, serving part time as Visitation Pastor at the Winnetka Bible Church, Illinois and as chaplain at Inspiration Ministries.
Tory is survived by his wife of 66 years, his precious, Flo; daughters, Nancy (Ron) Mahler of Mililani, Hawaii, Carol (Al) Wamsley of Fort Worth, Texas and Sue (Steve) Sorensen of Walworth; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at Calvary Community Church, Hwy 50, Williams Bay. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Toynton’s Walworth Funeral Home, 328 Kenosha St., Walworth, and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.
