Donald Grover Hopkins, 82, of Beloit and formerly longtime Delavan resident died at Premier Health Care Center in Beloit on Dec. 3, 2012. He was born Jan 21, 1930 in Delavan to the late John and Esther (Grover) Hopkins. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1948. He farmed all his life in the Delavan area. He married Carmen Hasselquist Aug. 11, 1949.
He then married Harriett Larson April 30, 1988 in Elkhorn. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He played football with the Delavan Red Devils and has been associated with the Red Devils all his life. He was an avid Packer fan and was seen at many sporting events around Delavan. He was one of Delavan’s more colorful characters and was seen drinking coffee and chatting at many local restaurants with his buddies.
He is survived by his wife, Harriett of Beloit; daughters, Donna (James) Muller of Stitzer and Cathy (Dan) Hopkins of Madison; sons. Wesbrook Hopkins of Delavan, William Hopkins of Atlanta, Winston (Karelyn) Hopkins of Madison and Wayne (Kathy) Hopkins of Delavan; stepdaughters, Kathryn Hudson of Beloit, and Cindy (Don) Marsden of Loves Park, Ill.; stepson, Michael (Nancy) Hallock of Tennessee; five grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
A gathering with the Hopkins Family will be from
4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Betzer Funeral Home in Delavan. The family suggests memorials to Delavan Youth Football.
