MARY C. STRONG

Mary C. Strong, 95 of Lake Geneva, died Sunday Nov. 25, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born on Jan. 19, 1917, to J. Walter and Elsie (Yahnke) Strong.  She graduated from Elkhorn High School with the Class of 1934.

Mary was trained as a legal secretary, and held several interesting positions in Washington, DC including with the National Geographic Society and the Lamb Law firm, who represented major U.S. trade associations.  She resided in Washington until she retired in 1987, when she returned to the Midwest and settled in Lake Geneva.

An avid Civil War buff, Mary enjoyed reading and learning about the war, and traveling to various historic sites.  She also enjoyed current events and family gatherings and outings.  Even at 95, Mary appreciated the ability to drive, be independent, and visit family and friends.  She was also an avid fan of the Cubs and Packers.  She is survived by her nephew, John (Christine) Strong of Fontana and their two children Jennifer and Christopher Strong of Chicago, Ill., two godsons, Randy and Rory Shine of Lake Geneva.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers William J. and Walter Alan.

Mary was an inspiration to everyone who knew and loved her, and she left us all with an important lesson: How to grow old gracefully.

A private graveside service was held at Hazel Ridge Cemetery, Elkhorn.  Online guest registry can be found at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.

Arrangements completed by Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Homes and Crematory Elkhorn, WI.
