Earlene Vogel Sengbush, 89 of Grand Prairie, Texas, went peacefully to our Lord, Oct. 26, 2012 surrounded with the love of her family, friends and Priest Father Andy Powell.
She was born in Solon Mills, Ill., July 1, 1923 to Charles and Katherine Vogel with three sisters, Phyllis, Jean, Maxine; and four brothers, Clint, George, Bob and Allen.
She grew up in Elkhorn. After high school, her brother Allen introduced her to Ray Sengbush who hitchhiked from college to visit her. They married May 19, 1945 in Elkhorn and later moved to Texas, where the oil boom needed a geologist. In 1952 they moved to Grand Prairie where they raised three children, Lynn, Bill and Larry.
She had an important relationship with Jesus. Her favorite prayer was St. Francis “Lord Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace.” She was fond of cooking, baking, reading, crafts and word puzzles. Her smile lit up the parish hall and everywhere she went. She was a devoted wife mother and Grand Prairie volunteer.
Her family was always busy at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Grand Prairie. She taught her children the power of Jesus and prayer and she was always involved with her children’s activities and baking cookies for the neighbor’s children. She loved to decorate, bake and entertain for every holiday. Her hospitality made her home loving to everyone.
She was active in the Women of St. Andrews, Women’s Club of Grand Prairie, Brighter Tomorrows, Helping Hands and several others. She loved to sew baby caps and blankets for those in need.
She was best known as a helper, even when she had to use her walker, she would deliver fresh baked cakes and cookies. She loved and admired her children and grandchildren, Megan and Ray.
She equally loved her children’s spouses, Phillip, husband of Lynn; Linda, wife of Bill; and Terri, wife of Larry. She was loved by her extended grandchildren, Phil Jr., Jackie, John, Katherine, Kendall, and great-grandchildren Andrew and Lauren Kate.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray; brothers, Clint, George and Bob; and sister Maxine.
She had a special love for her sisters Phyllis and Jean and her brother Alan. She also loved all her nieces and nephews, phillip, Charles, Jan (Joey), Mark, Susan, Jeff L., Heidi, Heather, Barbra, Robbyn, Carrie, Randy, Andi, Jeff V., and many great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, show kindness and compassion to those in need, just as Jesus Christ did and as Earlene loved to do also.
A memorial service was held Nov. 3 at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church in Elkhorn.
Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home of Grand Prairie handled arrangements.
